It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden death of former Kitman Dave Matthews. Dave served 51 years with the Albion and in conjunction with the Supporters Club we organised a Dinner only 2 years ago in his honour. It was only a week ago that many of us had the pleasure of being in Dave’s company at the Arsenal game, we all commented how well David looked after his recent successful battle against cancer so to hear this news today has come as a real shock to everyone connected with the Association. Dave was one of those “really nice guys”, well respected by everyone who met him. He was a friend to all Former Players, a person who did his job immaculately, always with a smile and a person with a great sense of humour. The Association made him an honorary Member upon his retirement and we all were highly delighted to see him at our functions. David was accepted by every Former Player from whichever era they had pulled on the blue & white shirt which he would have carefully laid out and more importantly he had the trust of the dressing room, they knew whatever might have been said Dave would be discreet.

Mr Albion will be sorely missed by all the guys. However, it will be his family and close friends who will miss him more and therefore our deepest sympathy goes to Carol, Alison & Claire.

RIP Mr Albion.
