He joined the Albion in January 1961 from Queens Park Rangers and in his 8 year stay at The Hawthorns he established himself in the No 11 shirt. Chippy was born in Leeds on 19 December 1940, a typical Yorkshire man with great dry sense of humour, not afraid to say how he felt, often a bit of a “loner” but still had close friends in Alec Jackson and John Kaye. He was never afraid to tell his fellow team mates when they were not performing how he thought they should.

Clive appeared in 3 Cup Finals for The Baggies, 1966 League Cup final win over 2 legs versus West Ham and the following year again in the League Cup final against his old team QPR. He scored 2 brilliant goals to give the Albion a 2 nil half time lead but of course history tells us what happened and the 3-2 defeat was one of the hardest things for Chippy to accept, QPR was the team that gave Clive his chance in the game and of course he wanted to do particularly well.

However, the following year he got his rewards with the 1 nil FA Cup win over Everton. 12 months later he was back at Loftus Rd. His career then started to wind down with a 3 year spell in America with Dallas Tornados, Washington Diplomats and Philadelphia Fury before he finally hung his boots up in 1978.

Unfortunately for over a decade Clive has suffered ill health and has needed care in various Care Homes in Scarborough, though a month ago he was moved to Whitby where he spent the last 4 weeks of his life. Chippy never forgot his days at the Baggies and he spent many a day wearing a blue and white shirt and never missed Match of the Day so he could follow the team he loved. The Association welcomed him to the 1968 Cup Final reunion Dinner in May 2008 and presented him with a television to make sure he never missed his Saturday night fill of football, the biggest cheer that night was for Clive, which made him quite emotional. Alec Jackson was a regular visitor to Scarborough and they spent many a happy hour reminiscing.

To his Family and Friends we send our deepest sympathies, Clive you will be missed by everyone. RIP our Friend.

The Funeral will take place on Tuesday 13th May at Scarborough Crematorium at 12.40pm.
