The Former Players Association regret to announce the death of former 1950’s left winger Gordon
Gordon signed for the ‘Baggies’ as an amateur from Rushden Town in August 1945 and eventually
signed pro for the club on 26th January 1949, making his first team debut on 15th October that year at
Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers, as a replacement for the injured George Lee. He
retained his place in the side until Lee returned to the first team in February 1950, making a total of
twelve appearances including two in the FA Cup tie and replay against Cardiff City, netting the
equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Ninian Park.
In May 1950 Gordon joined Hull City for a reported fee of £1,500, making three first team
appearances for the ‘Tigers’ before joining Southern League outfit Kettering in 1952.
The Association would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Gordon’s family, and funeral
arrangements will be announced as soon as they are known.
