It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Danny Campbell in South Africa from Covid19. Danny was our centre half in the League Cup Final win over West Ham in 1966. Danny played 11 games for the Albion and made his debut in the first leg of the League Cup game away at West Ham. Born in Manchester and joined the Albion in September 1961 becoming a professional in September 1962.

It is ironic that he left the Hawthorns to join Los Angeles Wolves in 1968 because he was unable to gain a regular place due to John Talbut’s dominance at No 5. He moved to South Africa in May 1974 joining Port Elizabeth City, retired in April 1975.

He has lived in South Africa since then, unfortunately he had suffered from dementia over the last few years. In February before Wigan game his son and sister visited The Hawthorns and was presented with his cap.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Isabel, son Glen, daughters Danielle and Collette, the grandchildren and his sister Josie
