“The Bluebirds of Cardiff were in town last night (Wednesday 17th) invading The Throstles nest, and sneaked away with a point, which wasn’t quite in the script, but it was also another opportunity to present a cap to the relatives of one of the clubs history makers, and in this case it was to the Nephew of centre half William Richardson, a legend from the 1930’s, who made 352 first team appearances for Albion between 1926 and 1937, including two Cup Finals in 1931 and 1935, along of course with promotion back to the First Division after the Final in 1931.
Billy’s nephew Jason Sherwood travelled up from Cornwall with stepson Martyn, to pick up the cap, from another legendary centre back Ally Robertson in the Regis Suite before the game, and the pair remained to enjoy the hospitality of the Former Players Association, who included Ally of course, Des Lyttle, Chairman Ray Wilson and Treasurer Norman Westbury. On the other side of the ‘Shrine it was nice to catch up with John Homer, Garry ‘Thommo’ Thompson, Mark Grew, Gary Hackett and Darryl Burgess, all ‘on duty’ for the evening, which included ‘popping’ into the executive box of Programme editor and publisher Stuart Curtis, an avid and much appreciated supporter of the FPA.”
