In June the Association lost a true friend and member. Bobby Hope was always a popular member of our Association, could often be seen in the Regis Suite on match days and most certainly attended our annual golf day whether as a player or just for the dinner.
Bobby loved his golf and had many friends and colleagues who enjoyed his company on a golf course. A member at Walsall Golf Club for many years as was his wife Carol.
When the idea to remember Bobby as our friend and a golfer we all liked, we decided, in conjunction with his good friend and Albion supporter John Nicholls, to commemorate his life with a golf competition between Family & Friends and Members of the Former Players Association.
Handsworth Golf Club was booked for Tuesday 13th September and the teams selected. Our team was Joe Mayo, Mick Fudge, Mark Grew, Nick Cross, Norman Westbury, Kevin Summerfield, Ray Wilso and Geoff Snape. Included in Family & Friends were former Albion Doctor Rick Jarrams, Bobby’s two sons Adam & Jamie, couple of the boys friends, Charles Allen, Ronnie’s stepson and John Nicholls.
It was a great day, closely fought but on this occasion the Bobby Hope Memorial Trophy was won by his former colleagues. We look forward to the return later next year.
