Wow, what a hot day we had at Walsall Golf Club on Monday 24th June when 19 teams participated in our 22nd Annual Golf Day.
Hot in many ways, temperatures in the late 20’s but performances on the course were pretty hot too.
In fact perhaps we should name it “THE NICKY CROSS GOLF DAY”, the answer comes later.
The day was once again sponsored by CPC CIVILS Ltd, our thanks to Con Cunningham. Our on course Sponsors were Solihull Roofing Ltd, thank you to Tony Sammon. Amros Golf Promotions, Neil Bettridge, provided the prizes.

Our thanks to Walsall Golf Club Catering Team for an excellent meal and fine service, to the Greenkeeping Staff for a testing course and our particular thanks to Jayne Nightingale, Secretary who ensures the day is a success.
As some wilted in the heat others just warmed to the occasion, well Nicky Cross did. 4 birdies in his round including 2 two’s. Whilst many a face became redder, Crossy’s red hot clubs made sure that he was a winner in many ways.
Bobby Hope’s son Adam entered a team under his Company’s name Newmans, their former player was Nicky Cross, they were the WINNERS with 89 points, besides Adam & Nicky, the other team members were David Taylor and Mike Deeley.
2nd Place were M3 Agency led by another former players son Nick Lovett, who included Rob Pollard, Dave Lawrence and Gary Owen. 85 points
3rd Place Gordon Keir’s Hadgkiss Hughes Beale, who had Jez Mills, Tony Day and Ray Wilson as team members. 84 points.
4th Place John Nicholls team with John Micholls, Rick Jarrams, Mark Gascoigne and Stewart Phillips. 83 points (winning back 9)
Nearest The Pin on 9th was David Taylor
Nearest The Pin on 13th was Peter Odemwingie
Nearest The Pin on 18th was Sam Mantom, who started his career at The Hawthorns.
To cap a glorious day we asked Bomber Brown to present the trophy to The Former Player’s Golfer of the Year, you guessed it, NICKY CROSS.
Our Congratulations to Nicky, I am sure WHS has now caught up with him.
Thank you to all the teams that entered and to the following former players who joined us
Chris Brunt, Peter Odemwingie, Joe Mayo, John Kaye, Ray Wilson, Mark Grew, Mick Fudge, Stewart Phillips, Richard O’Kelly, Bruce Collard, Graham Harbey, Gary Owen, Bob Ward, Kevin Kent, Dave Butler and of course NICKY CROSS.
