Today, we lost a colleague, a friend and goalkeeper who was part of the Atkinson era, that team of 1978-79 that entertained whether home or away.

A player who has a record that is unlikely to be beaten, the most consecutive number of games played by a keeper, 228 games without being dropped, injured, illness nothing got in the way of that successful run of appearances.

Tony joined from Ashford, had a spell on loan at Preston before replacing 1968 FA Cup winner John Osborne between the sticks. Tony was part of that defence of Batson, Wile, Robertson & Statham that gave a solid base to allow the flamboyance of Regis, Cunningham, Brown to flourish.

Popular with his teammates and fans alike, Tony made his debut on 12th March 1977 at White Hart Lane v Spurs and went onto make 329 first team appearances before leaving for Chelsea in 1986.

Tony stayed in football as a coach and manager until life decided it was time to make a move, that was into a very different role as part of the Prison service.

TG will be missed by many but none more so than his wife Linda, daughters Jade & Lauren, son Luke, his grandchildren, family and friends, we send our sincere condolences to them all.

RIP TG
