A frustrating week for Albion fans, with three games against a trio of differing oppositions in Coventry City at the Ricoh followed by the visits of Birmingham City and Swansea City at The Hawthorns.
Defeat against the ‘Sky Blues’ after domination the first half and taking a two goal lead, was quickly followed by the first West Midland ‘derby’ of the season, as the ‘in-form’ Birmingham City breezed into town, and nearly waltzed away with all three points, with a strong second half performance equalising Albion’s interval lead, and could count themselves unlucky not to take all three points instead of just the one.
Having said that, the highlight of the evening was the return of three Albion ‘legends’ Paul Robinson, Geoff Horsfield and Darren Carter, who were all ‘on duty’ in one way or another on an emotion charged night, Geoff and Darren presented with their club caps by Paul during that half time interval.
Three days later, it was a case of ‘back tho The Hawthorns’ for the visit of Swansea, re-kinling memories of 1993 when the old stadium, experienced one of those historic nights as Albion overturned a single goal deficit to win tyhrough to a Wembley play-off Final, with one of the heroes of that night Andy Hunt on duty for the association, and a delight to have around on such an occasion.
It was a game that would be as equally emotionally charged as the ‘Throstles’ found them selves behind after just thirteen seconds and and two down at the break. It wasnt looking good until the manager mad match winning changes, that saw Heggebo with two classic goals and Jayson Molumby with and equally classic winner snatch the game away from the ‘Swans’ as well as lift the roof off the Brummie Road End!
The
highlight of that afternoon, apart form those three points was the second appearance of the season by Albion’s former legendary goalkeeper Russell Hould who pent the afternoon in the Regsi Suite with his close family watching the game. It is well nown that Russell’s has not been too well of late, and ALL of us at The club wish him a sppedy recovery and many more appearances watching his old team.
