The visit of The Welshmen from Wrexham on Good Friday heralded a little bit of Hawthorns history, being the very first competitive League meeting between the two sides at the Shrine.
Indeed Wrexham’s only visit to B71 was in a, war time Cup game in 1941. It was also an emotional afternoon when we said goodbye to a club goal keeping legend Tony Godden, who sadly passed away on the week leading up to the game, and it was fitting that so many of his friends, colleagues and family, stood pitch-side to pay their respects with a minutes applause. It was also an afternoon that saw the first return in many years of former players Micky Thomas, also famous in Wrexham of course and Robbie Dennison on, who were interviewed pre match in the East Stand suites, Ally Robertson and Joe Mayo on duty with pre match tours, and the Regis Suite handed over to the Godden family for the afternoon under the stewardship of Association chairman Ray Wilson, along with Geoff Snape and Norman Westbury.
